Last year we lost the founder Bob Kennedy and this year we recently lost another of the founding "fathers" of the contest, Robert "Dr. Death" Duncan. Bob Duncan was 78 when this contest started and every week he and a crew of other slightly more spry fellows could be found every contest morning dunking push brooms in the lake and cleaning off the pier of the seagull droppings.  They helped provide the best fishing experience for the contestants and families..

The Hottest 10 Weeks of the Summer

2014 Season: Every Tuesday from June 17 - August 19, from 11am to 12:30pm, prizes awarded after 12:30pm

Notice the NEW ending time.  We will end the contest a half hour earlier than in previous years.  We have noticed that the contest felt a little long, so we have shortened it a little.

Welcome to the Hackensack Childrens Fishing Contest.  This is Minnesota's LARGEST Children's Fishing Contest.  It runs every Tuesday. We offer prizes for First, Smallest (in inches), Largest (in ounces or pounds) and Most fish in each of 3 age categories (0-5, 6-9, 10-15).  There are always free hot dogs, pop and nightcrawlers for bait (or food if you're really hungry).  We have Minnow Races and a Casting Contest that starts at the blast of Hackensack's noon whistle blow, both with nice prizes for the winners.  Come down any and every Tuesday to take advantage of a great day fishing with your son or daughter.

Life Jackets and pole are required, but we do have a few you can borrow if you don't have any or forgot them on a first come, first served basis.  We also sell Photo Buttons and T-Shirt transfers (for a nominal fee) so you can forever remember this wonderful event.

Yearly Totals for 2013:

     Kids - 936 Fish - 2671 (caught and released)

Over 4000 hot dogs and around 225 two liter bottles of soda were consumed this year.

We are located in downtown Hackensack MN.  When traveling on highway 371, head west at the bakery.  We are right next to the statue of Lucette Diane Kensack, Paul's wife and the Chamber of Commerce.
